It is heartbreaking to see an animal which suffers. But, some people walk by without taking any action to help an abused or hurt animal. But, we must react and here are some details of where to call and what to say.

Once you see an abused or neglected animal you should immediately call RSPCA cruelty line 0300 1234 999 which is open 24/7. You should inform them about what you have seen or heard. Besides, it is necessary to tell them your name, address and telephone number. It has to be provided only so that they could call you back at the end of the investigation to inform you about the outcome.

Another thing which you should tell RSPCA is the date, time and place of the offence. It could also be useful if you could provide any photographs of the cruelty which would then be used as an evidence. So, if it is possible take photographs or record the incident to ensure that the offender gets punished. Other things which are going to be helpful with prosecuting the offender include names, addresses and registration numbers of vehicles of people involved in the abuse of an animal and personal information of any witnesses. It is understandable that you may not be able to collect all of the information but it is necessary for you to try to share as much information as possible with a controller who handles your call.

But, most importantly, a controller is going to ask you about the situation of the animal relating to its welfare and bodily condition. It involves things like any injury, access to water and a place to live. So, you should call RSPCA if you found an abandoned dog, if you have seen an injured or ill dog which did not get proper treatment or if you have seen someone hitting a dog. But, there are plenty of other actions which can cause harm to animals such as forcing them to fight. Therefore, if you have seen anything that worries you, just call RSPCA and they will take care of it.
