Women who do not want their babies to live often decide to have an abortion. But, what they often do not realise is that babies may survive abortion despite efforts of abortioners. This is what happened to Melissa Ohden. Her story of pain and love is incredible and worth to look at it closer.

When Melissa was born she weighed less than three pounds. Right after birth Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurses, specialising in premature newborn infants looked after her. Then, she was adopted. For many years she did not know the story of her birth. But, she learned the truth when she was just 14-years-old.

It was traumatic for her to find out that her mother did not want her and that she used a toxic saline solution to kill her. But, forunately it did not work. Nevertheless, Mellissa suffered when when she found out the truth and was ashamed of it. To forget about her suffering she seeked help in alcohol and sex. She also suffered from bulimia.

However, her whole life changed because of the “grace of God” as she says. Melissa is now a devout Catholic and a pro-life advocate. What's more, she’s a wife, mother and author of a memoir called You Carried Me, in which she describes how she searched for her biological mother.

Besides, she has forgiven her birth mother for what she has tried to do. Even more than that, she loves her mother as she said: “I’ve always loved her, but my love for her deepens year after year and not just because the circumstances of her life and mine are now different… I know the truth about how she was forced into that abortion. But I think the older I get, the more I learn how to love people, and to respect them for who they are.”

Melissa was able to forgive her mother because she understood that she was pressured into having an abortion as she was just 19-year-old college student. She also did not know that her baby survived.

But, the two women finally met in the summer of 2016. For 30 years Melissa's mother had to suffer incredible quilt and regret relating to having an abortion. So, to find out that her daughter is alive and even has forgiven her was a huge help in her healing process.

So, Melissa's story shows that unwanted children suffer from lack of love but because of forgiveness they are able to lead happy lives. Besides, some women like Melissa's mother regret having an abortion and so to continue to lead a normal life seems almost impossible for them. It, therefore, requires a long healing process which also requires forgiveness.
