Abortion in Third Trimester

It is difficult to understand why any doctor would carry out an abortion in third trimester. Especially, a week or two before the due date. This is what Dr Susan Robinson has done. 

She is a very controversial person as she openly admits that she has carried out third trimester abortions. She explained during an interview with the Irish Independent in 2017 that "there is nothing legal to stop me from doing any abortion that I think is appropriate.” It is because there are no restrictions in the US and in New Mexico where she used to work. 

Nevertheless, Robinson said that she used ultrasounds to check when babies were conceived before she carries out abortions. But, she admits that it is often inaccurate: “Let’s say the woman is at 31 weeks, well, given the inaccuracy of the ultrasound she could perfectly be 34 weeks." It is not only hypothetical as she admits that she previously committed an abortion on a baby she thought was 32 weeks but when she saw the aborted baby's body she realised that it was 37 weeks. It means that it was 9th month of the pregnancy and the baby was fully grown and capable to live outside of his mother's womb.
