How to Ensure that your Child is Born without Disability
Every pregnant woman probably knows that she should
supplement her healthy diet with multivitamins. But, not everyone may be aware
that some vitamins must be taken even before a woman conceives to ensure
healthy development the baby.
One of such a vitamins is folic acid which women should
start to take even before getting pregnant. It is because defects occur only
25-29 days after conceiving. During this early time of pregnancy many women do
not know yet that they are pregnant. Therefore, at that crucial for child’s
development time women usually do not take any actions to ensure its healthy
development.
But, they can do it by taking folic acid before they get
pregnant. Moreover, women need more folic acid during pregnancy and while
breastfeeding. So, it is important to continue taking folic acid even after the
first trimester.
The importance of folic acid has been proven by the Society
of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and by the Motherisk Program.
They carried a research in 2007 which was published in the Journal of
Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada. It concludes that women should take this
vitamin at least 3 months before getting pregnant.
