The Sky is the Limit

Everyone has talents. But, we often waste them by spending plenty of time on watching TV or on social media while we could spend it on development of our skills. These abilities can include a talent to sing, paint or to bake delicious cakes. It is, therefore, very gratifying that Emma Anderson, a young woman with Down Syndrome, has made a lot of effort to develop her talents and, what's more, that it has been highly rewarded. But, who is she?

Emma is a 33 years old woman with GCSE in art. She became famous after she has won an art competition because as a reward she could present her works at a British art galleries of Tate Modern. She even sells her paintings and sculptures at public exhibitions. Most of her work is created at the Rowan foundation in Cambridge, a charity which provides tutoring and space for people with learning difficulties. But, Emma not only creates her art work there, she is also a volunteer at this charity, an extraordinary volunteer because of her positive attitude and a sense of humour. She does so much good that we should follow her example.

It is, therefore, saddening that after she was born one of doctors told her mother that Emma won't do anything and so she can leave the baby at the hospital. Now, she is proud of her doughter. Mirka, the mother born in Poland, even directed a film about her daughter's life called 'The Sky is the Limit' which became popular in the USA, Chile, Spain, Venezuela and Norway at film festivals. In January of this year, this short film won silver at the World Human Rights Film Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It certainly deserved this reward, especially as Emma's life is a miracle. It is a miracle because of her talents and a good heart but also because of serious health problems which she managed to overcome when she was an infant. The issue was that she was born with a huge hole in her heart. At first she was released from a hospital. But, her mother found decent doctors who identified the problem and dealt with it properly. This is why, when Emma was 18 months old, she had to go through a surgery at a Great Ormond Street Hospital to have the hole patched up with an artificial tissue.

In conclusion, Emma Anderson shows how people with Down Syndrome can help others, develop their talents and reach a success at the same time. Thanks to her mother people get to know about Emma and so she can be an inspiration for many.
