Christian Prayers Advert Banned
In
November 2015 the Cinema Advertising Authority and the British Board
of Film Classification accepted an advert by the Church of England
which featured the Lord’s Prayer. The advert showed people in
different situations praying the Lord’s Prayer also to promote a
website JustPray.uk.
But, the Odeon,
Cineworld and Vue chains refused to show the advert because of a
possibility that it will offend the audience. How can praying offend
anyone?
“The Lord’s Prayer
is prayed by billions of people across the globe every day and in
this country has been part of everyday life for centuries. Prayer
permeates every aspect of our culture from pop songs and requiems to
daily assemblies and national commemorations. For millions of people
in the United Kingdom, prayer is a constant part of their lives
whether as part thanksgiving and praise, or as a companion through
their darkest hours” said Arun Arora, director of communications
for the Church of England.
Christians of all
denominations pray the Lord’s Prayer. If someone does not want to
pray he/she does not have to. The advert aimed to encourage
Christians to pray and not to offend non-believers.
