First Aid for Souls in Purgatory

November is a month devoted to souls in purgatory. In this month Catholics pray the rosary and other prayers to bring relief to those souls which suffer in purgatory, especially for family members. 

We never know if a particular person got to heaver, purgatory or to hell. Even if someone was very religious and had a big heart it is possible that he/she still suffers in purgatory because of good things which that person omitted to do or because of small sins. So, we can never be certain that someone we knew does not need our prayers.  

The Saintly Padre Pio prayed for souls in purgatory a lot and he encouraged others to do the same. Once he said that:

“Holy Souls are eager for the prayers of the faithful which can gain indulgences for them. Their intercession is powerful. Pray unceasingly. We must empty Purgatory.”

 

It is also important to pray for souls of the dead because those souls then pray for us to repay us for our prayers. If we pray for souls in purgatory we get the same help from God as if we were praying for ourselves.
